THE term "Grand Design" is not exclusive to a British TV series showcasing interesting houses.

In fact, every piece of music, painting, literature, architecture etc has to have a design as its basis.

Some, like the Sydney Opera House, or the Last Supper in painting, are truly grand.

For the people of Simply Classical, the Messiah by Handel came to mind in their planning for the November 30 Gympie concert for various reasons; one of them the proximity to Christmas, another that they had been looking for a good trumpet performance for a while.

So it was The Trumpet Shall Sound, with Brad Smith, who teaches music at James Nash, making his Simply Classical debut by taking the trumpet part, and Daniel Jess the male vocal solo.

The Gympie Strings will play the orchestral accompaniment and will also play the overture or Sinfonia, as it is called. Kerri Eaton will contribute to this mini Messiah by singing He Was Despised.

Brad, Daniel and Kerri will each have a solo of a contrasting nature as well. …
