Billy the Puffer Fish Has a New Home

A PUFFER fish which became an international celebrity after being featured in a National Geographic magazine has a new home at Tynemouth's Blue Reef Aquarium.

Billy the porcupine puff-puffer fish learnt how to fire water jets at aquarium staff to let them know he is hungry and wants to be fed.

More bizarrely, aquarists then had to spoon-feed the fussy fish his supper - a mix of shrimp and squid.

His behaviour was so extraordinary that he made headlines around the world - resulting in him receiving fan mail from all across the globe.

As well as becoming a firm favourite with visitors, Billy has also been piling on the pounds to such an extent that he outgrew his old display.

Blue Reef's Anna Etchells said: "Billy was still relatively young when he first arrived here and since then he has been steadily growing. He's now reached a size where he can fend for himself alongside the sharks and the rays in our tropical ocean tank. …
