Donation a Logical Thing

IT WAS the most humbling experience of Peter Paynter's life.

He went missing from his property at Eungella in September, surviving three days in dense bush.

As a result, Mr Paynter joined his employee, Electrix, in making a donation to Mackay SES and the Eungella Community Development Association.

"It's just a token of gratitude really," Mr Paynter said.

"I'm sure they can use the equipment and the money.

"For me it was the logical thing to do."

The donations included a monetary gift, eight stretchers, a generator and two handheld GPS devices.

The total value of the donations was estimated to be about $10,000.

Mackay SES group leader Joann Clout said the donation was valuable and timely with storm season approaching.

"For the Mackay SES unit, it will mean that when we are activated in a remote area we can... provide better communication from our sites," she said.

Ms Clout was part of the team that searched for Mr Paynter and said the response from his colleagues, the Eungella community and the emergency services had been impressive. …
