Wife Remembered for Lovely Smile and Her 'Cheeky Eyes'

DAPHNE Clarke called a spade a spade and loved having a XXXX beer.

The 79-year-old great-grandmother died on October 6 at New Auckland Place aged care residence from a stroke.

Wally Clarke told The Observer his wife was a straightforward woman.

"If she thought you weren't any good, she would tell you," he said.

"Very rarely would she change her mind."

Mrs Clarke was well liked and known by many people in the area.

But Mr Clarke will miss his wife the most.

"I will miss her smile, laugh and cheeky eyes," he said.

Mrs Clarke's favourite hobby was golf and she was a foundation member of the Boyne Island Tannum Sands Golf Club and the first female president.

Spending time in her garden was also a favourite a pastime.

"She loved roses and flowers. She rarely cut any flowers as she said that they cried when they were cut," Mr Clarke said.

"She had the best lawn," daughter Karen Walker added. …
