HE'S hardly raced in anger for more than a year but bookmakers still believe Mooloolaba ironman Ali Day is the biggest threat to reigning eight-time Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Ironman Series champion Shannon Eckstein for today's series-opener in Western Australia. While The Professor is at relatively short odds of $2.25 with sportsbet, Day is on the next line of betting with Ky Hurst at $7. Day missed last summer's series and warmed up for this edition with third and 10th place finishes at two events at Alexandra Headland recently.

Boyhood dream falls flat
