GRIDIRON: Spartans coach Matt Noonan believes several Coast players are in line for world championship selection after his side's domination of this year's Gridiron Queensland Colts league.

Noonan said several players who starred in Sunshine Coast's 40-0 drubbing of the Gold Coast Stingrays in last Saturday's Sun Bowl could play for Australia in Sweden next year.

"I hope some of our players can make the team -- they are definitely capable," he said.

"We've got some senior guys who are already in the process of trying to get college scholarships and things like that, but we've got some younger guys who are very talented and proved that this season."

Coast's 40-0 win came after a 39-0 win in the semi-final and underlined a dominant season for the Maroochydore-based team.

Several stars are expected to be selected in the Queensland team that will contest the national championships in Perth early next year.

Noonan said that tournament would act as a selection trial for the International Federation of American Football World Championship in Stockholm next July. …
