Fast Food Not on Top of Mackay Region's Menu; Ranked towards Bottom

DRIVING through Mackay anyone would think there is an extraordinary number of fast food restaurants lining the streets, but that is not so when compared to other Queensland cities.

Mackay was ranked towards the bottom of a list analysing the number of fast food restaurants compared to the population.

In a bid to find Queensland's fast food capitals, Diabetes Queensland has ranked regions according to the number of fast food outlets per person.

Out of a ranking from one to 37, with one considered the worst, Mackay was ranked 25th.

The analysis found there were 31 fast food outlets in the local government area, or one for every 3933 people.

This was surprising, considering five areas that had the highest concentration of fast food outlets in the state were also hubs for the resources sector.

Despite the figures, Diabetes Queensland chief Michelle Trute said it was evident that Queenslanders were over-indulging in fast food. …
