A PITTSWORTH family is determined to stay positive after a blaze tore through their home.

Damien Ridgway knows he and his three daughters are lucky to have escaped the fire which ignited their Bowden street home as they slept on Monday night.

"I had put the girls to bed and was in the bathroom and heard the smoke alarm going off," he said

"I rushed out to see the hallway on fire and quickly moved to wake my daughters up and get them to safety.

"The lounge room was completely engulfed. We had to climb out a bedroom window."

Left with only the clothes on their back, Mr Ridgway said the most important thing was that nobody was hurt.

"While it hurts to have lost our home and our belongings the fact my wife and daughters were not harmed is all that matters," he said.

"Material items can be replaced but your loved ones can't."

Next door neighbour Tim Jasch said he was in shock when he heard Mr Ridgeway banging on his door calling for help. …
