VETERANS APPRECIATION DAY PARADE

Baker County is holding its first Veterans Appreciation Day Parade on Saturday. The event will begin at the Baker County Courthouse at 11 a.m. and end at Macclenny Memorial Park, 160 West Blvd. Entertainment will begin at the park at 1 p.m., along with dinner provided for veterans and their families. Military memorabilia also will be on display.

LT. RUSS BURKE HONORED

Gov. Rick Scott has presented Clay County Sheriff's Office Lt. Russ Burke with the Medal of Heroism for his courageous actions in rescuing a child and safely disarming his grandfather, who was threatening Burke and others with a handgun in May 2013.

LIVING A BALANCED LIFE WORKSHOP

ADOPT-A-FAMILY DONATIONS NEEDED

The Nassau County Volunteer Center has begun its 25th annual Holiday "Adopt-a-Family" program, which lets residents, businesses, churches, civic and other organizations make the holidays happier for those in need. The holiday gift-giving program helps clients from the Barnabas Center, Head Start programs, Family Support Services and the Council on Aging. Donations of gift cards, clothing or toys are needed. To get involved, call the Volunteer Center at (904) 261-2771 or stop by its office at 1303 Jasmine St. in Fernandina Beach.
