ROCKHAMPTON is starting to come of age, according to Mayor Margaret Strelow.

The economy is healthy, development applications are soaring and the city's CBD and riverfront are gradually being transformed into the jewels of the city's crown.

Cr Strelow said development applications for the 10 months from January 1 this year were up 25% on the same period last year.

There were now 500 apartments on the riverfront, with another 300 in varying stages of approval, and about 7000 residential lots on the books.

"There are 1000 at Edenbrook and another 2500 in the Stockland development," Cr Strelow said.

"There's 2500 lots in the university parcel and the commitment from the State Government of $8million just over a month ago will build the traffic lights that are essential to get the project started.

"There are another 1000 lots across the region, mushrooming in all sorts of places."

Cr Strelow said the region was starting to reap the rewards of the council's Development Incentives Policy, which includes no infrastructure charges for development in the CBD and half-price charges elsewhere in the region. …
