CRICKET: Sunshine Coast teenager Nick Selman takes his time at the crease, but the Scorchers batsman is quickly making a name for himself.

An opener in the traditional mould, the 19-year-old has raised eyebrows during the past month or two, averaging 63.4 from six outings in Queensland Premier Grade's two-day format.

A last-start knock of 118 from 246 balls in his side's first-innings win over Redlands was particularly impressive and preceded his selection in the Queensland under-19 side.

"He's been very patient," Scorchers coach Brad Murphy said.

"It's a great thing for someone that young.

"He understands if he bats all day, then the rest of the team will bat around him and we'll do pretty well."

Selman played three games in first grade in the 2012-13 season and eight games in 2013-14.

This campaign, he has solidified a spot at the top of the order and played all 12 games. …
