Falcons' Wings Clipped in Flight Computer Chaos

craig.thompson@trinitymirror.com AIR-TRAFFIC chaos left Newcastle Falcons players grounded along with thousands of other passengers. Half of the team and coaching staff were on their return home from playing Parisian side Stade Francais at the Stade Jean-Bouin in the European Rugby Challenge Cup yesterday when they got caught up in the problems.

Many passengers faced a travel nightmare after London airspace was temporarily closed due to a computer failure - sparking delays across the UK. Half of the Falcons team caught an earlier flight from Paris and touched down in Newcastle, while others, including Dom Barrow, Lee Smith, Dan Temm and Andy Davies, along with director of rugby Dean Richards and coach John Wells, were due to catch a later flight. But after being told their 3.15pm Air France flight was going to be delayed by three hours, they were then told it was cancelled.

Chronicle rugby reporter Mark Smith, who was travelling on the same flight as the team, said: "We were delayed in the departure lounge and then we were allowed on to the plane. …
