THE last time Robert Green was battling against relegation from the Premier League, he was surrounded by teammates who had won some of the biggest trophies in the game.

Queens Park Rangers had invested a fortune, especially in wages, to bring Champions League victors Julio Cesar, Jose Bosingwa, Ji-Sung Park and Djibril Cisse to Loftus Road.

There were others boasting major triumphs on their CV like Stephane M'Bia, Fabio and Esteban Granero, but the club went down two seasons ago in turmoil and without a fight.

Fast forward to the present day and the names in Rangers' ranks are not quite as successful, yet the difference in attitude is tangible.

Granted, high-profile summer acquisition and serial winner Rio Ferdinand is in the squad, while a member of Chelsea's 2006 title side -- Shaun Wright-Phillips -- is still there.

Both are very much on the periphery, though, and it is seasoned pros such as Green, Richard Dunne and Karl Henry, combined with the emerging talent of Charlie Austin and Steven Caulker, who are providing the backbone for a much stronger bid for survival. …
