ANDY Howells says Westoe will train their way through the three-week Christmas break as they bid to remain in National Three North.

The Shieldsmen drew 20-20 with Morley on Saturday in a result which leaves them six points and two places from safety, with their director of rugby saying: "We don't have a game now until Jan 3 when we face Lymm away, and that is one we have to win.

"That three-week period without a match can be really difficult in terms of retaining your momentum, so we are training right the way through.

"We can't afford to lose what we have built up, and Haydn Richards, David Haswell and Carlo del Fava have worked really hard with the team to make it what it is.

"We weren't gelling earlier in the season, but that is starting to take hold now and we are taking what we are doing into training onto the field on a weekend.

"It looked impossible a few weeks ago, but I can honestly say now there is a real positive feeling among this group. …
