AN EARLY morning swim at Brunswick Heads ended in tragedy when the body of a local man in his 60s was pulled from the water shortly after 8am yesterday.

Local surf lifesavers and emergency services were notified about 7.45am by surfers who had spotted the man's body just off the Brunswick Heads north wall.

Earlier the 62-year old man had been seen entering the surf in front of the surf club about 500 metres to the south, and was seen struggling in the water shortly after.

He was believed to have been caught unaware by the northerly sweep and a possible rip created by shifting sandbanks. …
