Day Keen to Hold off Poole Day Wary of Surfers Paradise Poole Party

SURF LIFESAVING: Surf ironman series leader Ali Day expects clubmate Matt Poole to mount a serious challenge when the pair face off at Surfers Paradise this weekend.

Day said Poole was set to explode in rounds three and four of Nutri-Grain series after bad luck hampered the second half of last month's trip to Western Australia.

Poole opened his series with a fourth-place in round one at Yallingup and looked set for another strong performance in round two before getting seaweed tangled in the rudder of his ski.

He finished 10th and exited the opening weekend sixth in the series, needing to make up ground in the remaining four rounds.

But Day, who trains alongside Poole in Mooloolaba, said the 27-year-old world endurance paddleboard champion could dominate Surfers Paradise this weekend.

"He trains really well and he's been training really hard and he was just really unfortunate over there in Perth, so he'll be intending to come out and have a really good result," Day said. …
