SANTA'S sleigh might need a tow this year, as he could be short a few "reindeer".

The lives of deer in the Lakes Creek Rd area are set to be cut short as they are expected to be culled this weekend.

Rockhampton animal activist Lyn Laskus doesn't believe there is enough deer in the area for a cull and that Mother Nature is the best form of culling, "because nature decides who lives and dies".

Ms Laskus said it was an insensitive time of year to start culling, with Christmas upon us next week.

"Me and my grandkids were driving on Emu Park Rd and a beautiful deer jumped over our vehicle and everyone's mouth dropped open and all I could say was "you're late, Santa's looking for you".

Ms Laskus has spoken with residents in the area who were told that shooting would occur over the weekend. "They will have shooters on Vesty St, Mackay St and Rockonia Rd. Apparently the deer come down the open paddock, they'll lure them there and shoot them," Ms Laskus said. …
