Excellence in Catholic Education at St John Paul College

Article excerpt

A MESSAGE from Simon Doyle, leader of curriculum.

Amy Hiscox and Alfredo Garcia, our 2014 college captains, have led St John Paul College through yet another successful year.

Amy and Alfredo have been closely supported by our year co-ordinator Mark Coster, and our vice captains Loren Buckley and Cian Duggan. With our local Coffs Harbour community $22,000 has been raised through the fundraising committee led by president Olivia Carniato. This amazing figure has made a difference to local charities such as The Early Childhood Centre Intervention Program, Bridging the Gap Men's Resource Centre and our African connection, the local school of Kawalazi in Malawi.

The SJPC Class of 2014 has more than 100 students who have already completed at least one HSC course in 2013, through our acceleration courses. Our college is very pleased with their excellent HSC results.

The main highlights for this year's HSC results include having 11 courses at above the state average.

In addition we have 26 distinguished achievers results, 36 band 6, 2 e4 bands and 137 band 5 results, 15 e3 bands from 33 courses. Special recognition is given to:

HSC Top Achiever, top 20 in the state

Lachlan Kelly PDHPE

Individual Success

Zachary Foggiato, Visual Arts pre-selection for Art Express 2015 with his major work titled Man Dies.

Kenneth Wilkinson, nominated for inTech Major Project in industrial technology.

Nathan Wendt, first place in Music Council of Australia Song Writing Competition for his song We Are One.

Amy Hiscox and Clare Jeffery, Bond National Mooting Competition, winning most outstanding advocates.

Throughout 2014, the college has received tremendous support from the community, parents and our college chaplain Father Shelwin Fernandez. We thank everyone who assisted in fundraising, assistance at sport and music, the canteen and all areas at the college.

On behalf of the entire school, congratulations to our 2014 seniors. This group has been exceptional across a diverse range of academic, vocational and extra-curricular pursuits setting a very high standard for the rest of the school to follow. …
