SOLD A PUP: Julie O'Neil leaves Toowoomba Magistrates Court after being fined for failing to provide proper care to a puppy she had for sale.

A TOOWOOMBA woman has been fined more than $7000 after admitting to selling an undernourished puppy.

Julie Michelle O'Neil, 48, had advertised two miniature dachshund pups for sale on the Aussie Trader website in August last year and a Gold Coast buyer had agreed to take one of the pups.

The buyer and her 12-year-old daughter met O'Neil in Gatton and handed over $1200 for a puppy which was placed in the car.

However, on the return trip to the Gold Coast, the buyer noticed the pup had diarrhoea and the dog's condition looked poor.

Once home, the buyer contacted a veterinarian who told her to hydrate the dog overnight and bring it in for an examination in the morning.

The vet found the dog to have suffered clinical dehydration, was malnourished with ribs showing, had a pot belly with audible stomach sounds and had a bacteria infection. …
