Emergency Crews' Hunt for Bridge Fall Man Continues

SEARCHES are to continue in the Tyne for a man who fell from the Redheugh Bridge.

Emergency services were called at around 9.40am yesterday after a man was seen to fall from the bridge into the River Tyne.

Police, fire and coastguard were at the scene as well as two RAF search and rescue helicopters, and members of the Tynemouth Voluntary Life Brigade.

The search for the man was scaled back by late morning but resumed at low tide last night and will continue this morning.

Around half a mile of Gateshead's Quayside was closed off to allow emergency services to search for the man but by Wednesday afternoon the man was still missing.

Peter Lilley, captain of Tynemouth Voluntary Life Brigade, said: "We were there until about 11amish.

"We were there to assist the coastguard.

"There were two helicopters briefly because one had been in the area and another was called in to assist. …
