Skipper O'Shea Aiming to Be a Part of Something Special

JOHN O'Shea wants to be part of something 'special' as Sunderland aim to complete an unprecedented four successive derby wins.

The Black Cats have won their last three meetings against rivals Newcastle United - two on Tyneside, and one at the Stadium of Light - and are bidding to make it four on the spin when they visit St James's Park on Sunday.

Sunderland's current winning streak equals their best-ever sequences against United, achieved on three occasions all in the first quarter of the last century.

But a fourth win for the Wearsiders would put set a new record.

Skipper O'Shea sets little store in statistics, but admits this would be a welcome addition to his CV.

He said: "It would be very special!

"But I'm sure the Newcastle lads will have been reminded of that as well, so there will be motivation on both sides.

"On the one hand to be part of the Sunderland team that does it, or not to be part of the Newcastle team that suffers four defeats. …
