RELAXED DAWSON REDISCOVERS LOVE; Long Distance Runner Taking It Easy, Covering 20km a Day, Five Days a Week

WHILE many of us are thinking how we might burn off the Christmas excess in the New Year, Clay Dawson has been kicking back in his own way.

Arguably Ipswich's fittest athlete, the long distance runner has been taking it easy over the festive period.

Following a year when he fell out of love with his sport through over exertion, he is enjoying rekindling his old flame.

"I'm finding the love of the sport again," Dawson said.

"I'm running slow and long, taking in the sights of Ipswich.

"I'm doing 20km a day but I take a couple of days off a week now.

"My commitment is not quite as intense."

Part of the reason for that is the long break in the racing season.

Dawson has been running with his club instead, the Brisbane Road Runners, where he recently picked up the Runner of the Year award for the second successive year.

He didn't run on Christmas Day, but that was partly because he didn't get the opportunity. …
