The convicted killer and brother of Sydney nightclub identity John Ibrahim was gunned down at about 10.30pm on Sunday.

Several shots were fired but police said only one bullet hit the 36-year-old, causing non-lethal injuries to his shoulder.

Photos of a man being detained at the scene have circulated but police have not made any official announcement about arrests.

Mr Ibrahim spent seven years in prison after he was found guilty of fatally stabbing Robin Nassour, brother of former Fat Pizza comedian George Nassour, in Sydney's inner west in 2008.

While in jail he was acquitted of conspiracy to murder. He was released on strict parole in August, banned from associating with gang members, his victim's family or his co-offenders.
