THIS year's Triple J Hottest 100 is likely to be a three- or four-horse race.

The annual listener poll sees more than 1.4million music fans in Australia and overseas vote for their favourite songs of the year.

Voting is currently open for the 2014 poll, with the results revealed in an on-air countdown on Australia Day.

Online betting agency SportsBet has Milky Chance's Stolen Dance as the frontrunner, closely followed by Sia's Chandelier, Sheppard's Geronimo and Chet Faker's Talk is Cheap.

But University of Melbourne associate professor and Australian Music Centre artist Mark Pollard believes another song will be in top contention.

"I reckon Peking Duk's High will have a pretty good chance," he said. "It's great for clubs or any context. High has the strongest mix of hooks and choruses and production."

Prof Pollard correctly predicted last year's winner Vance Joy for his song Riptide but said there have been no standout hits this year.

"It's a bit tricky this year... it's nowhere near as clear-cut as it used to be," he said. …
