MISS Newcastle is going to Africa to work with orphaned kids.

Nicole Bailey, who was crowned Miss Newcastle GB in August, has volunteered to travel to Zambia to help children and raise awareness of AIDs.

The 21-year-old is one of five Northumbria University students, all girls, who will be coaching basketball, football and netball to the youngsters.

Now the model has until July to find the money to pay for her trip.

She said: "It is a project the university organise but they do not fund it. Everyone who volunteers has to raise the money themselves.

"We are putting on a bingo night and have already asked several shops on the high street to donate some prizes.

"They were very generous and donated lots of great stuff for the night, so hopefully we will raise some cash."

Nicole, who studies sports development, donates a lot of her spare time to good causes.

When her stint in Zambia is finished, she will not be coming home.

Instead, she will fly to Malawi to volunteer alongside her sister, who is a doctor.
