Poyet Issues Some Home Truths over Wearmen's Form

SUNDERLAND must find a cure for their homesickness in the second half of the season, insists Gus Poyet.

Sunday's FA Cup third-round win over Leeds United was only the Black Cats' fourth win in 23 games in all competitions this season - and only their second at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland collected only 18 points at home last season - less than half of their eventual 38-point tally.

So far this term they have picked up only nine points from 10 league games at the Stadium of Light, their solitary league win on home soil coming against Stoke City in October.

In fairness, the Wearsiders' 10 home games in the league have pitted them against seven of the sides in the top half - with Liverpool the eighth top-10 team to visit when they arrive this weekend.

The second half of the campaign will see more of the sides from the lower half of the table and Poyet says Sunderland must take advantage.

Poyet said: "My idea was to get over the line of 20 points from the first half of the season.

"I didn't think it would be exactly 20, though!

"Now we have started the second part with 18 games to play.

"Most of the games against the big teams will be away.

"The situation has changed at home so now we need to get better there. …
