Dozens Jump at Chance to Be Coached by Olympian

IT'S not often you get the chance to be coached by a three-time Olympian.

But that's exactly what's on offer to aspiring athletes and those looking to get fit or lose weight at the launch of a new weekly class at the end of this month.

Long jumper Chris Tomlinson is teaming up with Great Britain distance runner Matty Hynes as the pair look to put their expertise and experience to good use.

Chris and Matty, who both live in Linthorpe, put their heads together at the end of last year and came up with the idea but had no idea it would attract the sort of response they've had this week.

Eighty people have con-firmed their attendance on a Facebook page in just two days, with the duo planning to split the sessions in two so they can cope with the demand.

The classes will feature a variety of strength, core and jump training sessions with Chris and Matty planning a range of activities to suit everyone from budding young athletes and sports people to those who are out of shape and looking to get fit in 2015.

Chris, 33, can call on the experience of three Olympic Games and various world and European championships and while he still harbours aspirations of making the Great Britain team for the 2016 Rio Olympics, he said: "I've always had an interest in coaching and personal training and I can't wait to get started with this.

"I'm still competing and going for the next Olympics and World Championships but I'm not going away warm weather training and the likes now like I used to. I spend 10 or 11 months of the year at home.

"Matty is a Great Britain international with a lot of experience and knowledge and this just seemed an ideal time and opportunity to set this up together."

Matty, who competed for Great Britain in last year's European Cup over 10,000m also has a string of national medals to his name and is making his marathon debut at London this year. …
