BORO new boy Tomas Kalas has set himself some tough targets in his time on Teesside.

Kalas is aiming to win promotion to the Premier League with Aitor Karanka's side.

But he also wants to press his claims for a regular first team shirt with both Chelsea and the Czech Republic. "My target for this season is to play as many games as I can and hopefully help Boro get promotion," said the on-loan Blues defender.

"If I can do that and play well it can help me develop as a player and help my career for my club and my country."

"It has been good for his career here and also Patrick.

"I don't mean anything disrespectful about Middlebrough because I know it is a big club but it is also a lower division and so it is better for me to step down and get more games here than to be at Chelsea or a Premier League club and never play many minutes.

"It is important for me to be playing games and be playing well if I want to be improve and to be picked later for both Chelsea and for the Czech Republic."

Kalas arrived on New Year's Eve and trained for a week before the paperwork on his loan to the end of May was sealed in time to make a debut in last week-week end's 0-0 draw at Reading. …
