MPs Lobby ACCC on Fuel Prices

WHEN a Middlemount grazier told Capricornia MP Michelle Landry that fuel had been delivered to his property for $1.18 per litre, she could not understand why Rockhampton was still "being ripped off at the bowser".

Yesterday, Ms Landry met with Keppel MP Bruce Young and Rockhampton LNP candidate Bridie Luva to call on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to investigate the region's above-average petrol prices.

It came a fortnight after the two MPs joined The Morning Bulletin in putting local fuel retailers under the pump, urging motorists to use "people power" to push prices lower.

As world oil prices plummet, the ACCC will investigate why prices at regional petrol bowsers have not.

In a statement, the ACCC said it would produce quarterly "macro" accounts of petrol price movements and at least four market studies examining "micro" issues, including analysis of the price drivers pay in three regional markets. …
