IT WAS a rocky start to the New Year for an Ipswich driver after he was caught drink-driving in the early hours of New Year's Day.

At Ipswich Magistrates Court this week, Joseph Ian Manu pleaded guilty to one charge of driving under the influence.

The 22-year-old was pulled over by police as he was travelling along the Ipswich Mwy in Redbank at 4.30am on January 1.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Kerry Allison said Manu recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.154 - more than three times the legal limit.

Manu was fined $550 and disqualified from driving for six months.

Teen girl over zero limit after 21st celebration

A TEENAGE driver has been booked for drink-driving the day after a big night.

At Ipswich Magistrates Court, Fetalaiga Va'Afusuaga pleaded guilty to driving over the zero-alcohol limit while on a provisional licence.

The 18-year-old was pulled over by police while travelling in Redbank Plains on December 7.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Jo Colston said Va'Afusuaga was breath tested and recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.047.

Magistrate Virginia Sturgess said the teenager was not allowed to have any alcohol in her system while on a restricted licence.

Va'Afusuaga said she had been drinking at a friend's 21st birthday party the previous night.

She said she slept at the party venue and assumed the alcohol was out of her system when she decided to drive home.

Va'Afusuaga was fined $350 and disqualified from driving for three months.

Drinkers pay price for driving under influence

TROY Anthony Johns, 35, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in Gatton on April 4 last year. He was fined $700 and disqualified from driving for six months.

JOSEPH Ian Manu, 22, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in Redbank on January 1. He was fined $550 and disqualified from driving for six months.

SIOELI Pulu, 25, pleaded guilty to driving over the middle alcohol limit while SPER suspended in Riverview on October 4 last year. …
