NO one is more surprised than me - but I'm actually keeping my New Year's resolutions. For now. I'm exercising more, eating less and have started my long-overdue declutter.

I really should be an expert, as I've read so many features on the subject over the years. But a staggering amount of all sorts has been clogging up space.

So I pledged to go through every cupboard and drawer in Chateau Overbury and be ruthless. If something hasn't been worn, used or thought about for a couple of years, out it goes - well, that's the idea.

Of course, there are a good many things that "might come in handy", things that I have suddenly attached a sentimental value to and things that could be sold. But in just a fortnight I've found a rather silly number of long-forgotten "treasures".

I started in the kitchen dresser, with a drawer full of instructions and leaflets. There was information on kettles I've long-forgotten we ever had, the previous dishwasher, instructions for three different irons, a guarantee I thought we'd lost and a lot more. …
