Surge in Green Support Is Still a Threat to Miliband's Success; Joe Murphy ANALYSIS

LONDON'S political map looks rosy for Labour just now but if the Greens continue to surge that could all change. Political scientist Rob Ford calculates there are 11 seats in London where a Green bounce could stop Labour winning target seats or even undermine sitting MPs.

Targets affected include Ealing Central and Acton, and Hendon, where Labour is relying on ex-Liberal Democrats to topple local Tories. These voters may turn Green instead.

Professor Ford even suggests Sadiq Khan, Labour's campaign chief, could see his 2,524 majority in Tooting endangered.

The Green tide could undermine Lib-Dems like Paul Burstow at Sutton and Cheam, by giving voters fed up with all the main parties an alternative.

The map of critical seats opposite is based on today's YouGov poll of Londoners, plus recent constituency polls and council elections. But others will reach different conclusions. Broadcaster Iain Dale reckons the Conservatives will take Hampstead and Kilburn as well as Sutton and Cheam, while the seat predictor at Electoral Calculus suggests Labour could crack Finchley and Golders Green. …
