Diane Boyle almost gasped when she saw the First Coast Car Council donation to the Ronald McDonald House of Jacksonville.

"I'm speechless," the house's executive director said of the $25,000 check.

Last week's check presentation brings the Car Council's total donated to the San Marco-based facility over the past decade to $335,500.

"It helps us to provide for our families, the lodging, the meals, the transportation, to fill our staffing needs so we can provide the compassionate care," Boyle said. "... As pediatric health care expands, the demand for the Ronald McDonald House expands."

The Car Council is the umbrella group for about 30 local car clubs and enthusiast groups. It plans two benefit events a year; the biggest is its annual fall "Cruisin' to the Creek" Car Show. Proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald House, which provides lodging and other services to the families of critically ill and seriously injured children. Fundraising and corporate donations pay for the facility, as does some funding from Ronald McDonald House owner/operators. …
