A MEDIC is flying out to the Middle East in a bid to pass on her life-saving skills to those caught up in the Palestine conflict.

Paula Dimarco, a senior physiotherapist at the Regional Neurosciences Centre at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, will be travelling to Gaza to support and train local medics.

She will also be offering specialist treatment to those with head and spinal injuries.

Paula specialises, on a day-to-day basis, in caring for people who have had an accident or illness, such as a brain tumour or stroke, affecting the spinal cord or brain.

Paula said: "I'm looking forward to being able to share my knowledge and skills to benefit the therapy staff working in Gaza, and ultimately the people who need rehabilitation."

Paula's visit is part of a response by the UK International Emergency Trauma Register (UKIETR), hosted by UK-Med. The UKIETR brings together teams of UK based medical and health professionals to respond to large scale emergencies overseas.

Paula has lived and worked in Newcastle for the last 12 years and has worked at the RVI since 2009. …
