ELLIOT SLESSOR produced his best professional performance to date by reaching the last 16 of the Xuzhou Open in China.

The tournament, event three on the Asian Tour, attracted a field of 128 players.

Facing an unknown opponent in China's Lee Tszho, Gateshead's Slessor was quickly off the mark by taking the opener 71 (34)-2 - only to see Tszho hit back to win the close-fought second 61-42 and put the match back on level terms.

From then on, however, it was one-way traffic with Slessor comfortably winning the next three frames 60-7, 88(53)-0, 66(58)-7 and the match 4-1. Having shared the first four frames against China's Tang Jun, it was Slessor who lost the fifth to fall 2-1 behind.

However, he did fight back strongly to claim the two remaining frames 78-8, 78-48, the match 4-3 and a place in the next round against Glasgow's 2006 World Champion Graeme Dott.

With both players seeking a place in the last 16, a confi-dent Dott started like he meant business after firing in a wellconstructed 108 to take the first frame without his opponent potting a ball.

After stealing the second by two points 66-64 to make the scores all square, Slessor went on to create an unexpected score line by winning both the following two frames 71-22 and 108-18 with breaks of 63 and 79 to race 3-1 ahead. …
