FORMER boxing champ Glenn McCrory went head-to-head with Chronicle columnist John Gibson at a charity talk-in for stricken athlete Drew Graham.

The Fighter and The Writer recounted their colourful career highlights to a packed crowd at The Stand comedy club in Newcastle.

Geordie star Tim Healy and singers Brian Kennedy and Una Dunne also joined the pair at the event, yesterday, which raised money for the paralysed athlete Drew as he leaves hospital in America and faces hefty medical bills.

And former world champion Glenn said he expected to raise thousands of pounds for Drew, whose life changed in a freak accident in September.

Glenn, 50, of Gosforth, Newcastle, said: "It was a great night and hopefully we will have raised thousands of pounds for Drew. "When John and I heard about what had happened we felt we should so something to help.

"Lots of people have asked us about a talk-in. We thought it was a great idea and thankfully we sold a few tickets."

The Chronicle previously reported how the awardwinning 1,500m runner and ex-Gosforth Harrier broke his neck when he dived into a creek while training for a triathlon. …
