THE SECRET WORLD OF LEWIS CA | RROLL (Tonight, BBC2, 9pm) THIS year marks the 150th-anni versary of the publication of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, but the children's classic shows little sign of ageing.

Martha Kearney, whose own obsession with Wonderland began when she played Alice in a local village play, tries to find out by exploring the life of the author, the Reverend Charles Dodgson, better known by his pen name of Lewis Carroll. With the help of experts ranging from actor Richard E Grant to author Philip Pullman, she asks how a mathematics don came to capture the world of childhood.

TOP GEAR (Tomorrow, BBC2, 8pm) JEREMY Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May make their way through Australia's Northern Territory and the men are tasked with picking a fast, luxurious GT for the trip.

He goes in search of a dish with mythical properties at the oasis of Al Fayoum, and visits the banks of the Nile where humans began farming in ancient times, before joining a family of Nubians for a feast.

This touching series wraps up tonight, with Paul visiting Bambelela, a rehabilitation centre for orphaned vet monkeys. Cameras follow Paul as he cares for 10-month old Toledo, playing with him, feeding and trying to get him to settle at night - which isn't the easiest of tasks. …
