A First for a Mackay Dentist; Membership of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons for Debra

EXTRA study, extra time and extra work - but it was certainly worth it.

Mackay dentist Debra Brown has just attained membership of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

She is the first and only dentist in Mackay with this extra qualification.

"I wanted to make sure I was providing the best service for my clients," MsBrown said.

Having worked as dentist for about 14 years, Ms Brown has run her own business, Debra Brown Dental, on Gordon St, for the past two years.

Her patient rooms have pictures of lilac-coloured flowers, and there is a TV for people to watch while their teeth are being worked on.

She has a kind nature and said one of the reasons she had become a dentist was because she "used to have a really good dentist" when she was younger.

"I think you have to have patience to be a good dentist," she said.

"You also have to really listen to your clients. …
