AN INSPIRED half-century partnership from Hospital's opening batsmen James Gibbs and Abhishek Bose helped lead their team to a six-wicket win against Giddy Goats in the Frenchville Sports Club Corporate Twenty20 grand final.

The side slipped straight back into gear on Saturday night after wet weather forced both teams off the pitch last weekend.

Winning the toss, Hospital elected to bat first with skipper Geoff Connor making a statement by sending his strongest batsmen to the crease.

Gibbs and Bose did their best to provide the star power, smashing a thrill-a-minute 60 for the first wicket.

"Our plan was to go pretty hard and put them on the back foot early," Connor said.

"We wanted to dominate all of their bowlers and not let them get on top of us.

"Twenty overs is longer than you think so we knew if we kept a steady head and batted sensibly we were in with a chance."

After emerging as premiership contenders during the opening round of the Twenty20 competition, Hospital was eager to build on that groundwork when it took the field. …
