Dazed Driver Found with Drugs in His Crashed Car

A DAZED amphetamine user was found snoozing at sunrise in his damaged car after it struck a guard rail.

He then fell asleep on grass at the feet of police officers.

Jacob Dean Cavanagh, 20, was found asleep early on December 19 last year in North Mackay and when woken could not stop scratching himself, prosecutor Duncan Erskine told Mackay Magistrates Court.

Const Erskine said police were on patrol along Malcomson St at 5.20am when officers came across a stopped car with its headlights on and engine running. Its driver was asleep at the wheel.

Police woke Cavanagh who Const Erskine said had appeared dazed with glazed eyes. Small needle marks were seen on his inside arm.

"He couldn't stop scratching himself. There was damage to his car consistent with damage to a guard rail on the access to Malcomson St," Const Erskine said.

"He asked to lay down as he was tired. He lay down on the grass and went to sleep. …
