THE North Coast Branch Surf Life Saving Championships this Sunday will be the biggest event Minnie Water Beach has hosted.

The championships return to Minnie Water-Wooli Surf Life Saving Club for the first time in seven years.

The branch's northernmost club's numbers have swollen dramatically since it last hosted. Some 80 competitors in the green and purple caps will compete across all age groups from under-8s to Masters against athletes from North Beach, Urunga, Sawtell, Coffs Harbour, Woolgoolga, Red Rock and Minnie Water.

MWWSLSC Nippers president Angela Hinterholzl said competition would be tough but is anticipating some strong results from the club.

"This will be our largest number of members in a long time and this is definitely the biggest carnival to be held at the beach," Hinterholzl said.

"With Peter Lougher coaching our nippers on the beach and Geoff Brodin for the board events, our nippers are looking really good.

"The under-9s have won recent swim team, board relay and beach relay events and the under-12s should do well in those events as well. …
