Club Makes Sure Sport Is Really for All

A MIDDLESBROUGH club which aims to promote sport for all abilities is hoping for your Wish support.

Set up in 1996 as the Teesside Lions, Tees Valley Wheelchair Sports Club aims to help individual members by improving health, reducing isolation, and developing self esteem and confidence.

It is also hoped an understanding of equality will be gained while removing barriers many people face when trying to participate in sport. With the help of last year's Wish campaign, the club, which meets at Outwood Academy, Acklam, used the support they received to help with the upkeep of equipment.

Ali Barnes, for the club, said: "With an average sports chair costing in the region of PS1,100, the upkeep of the existing chairs is vital, so we replenished our stock of maintenance equipment for the wheelchairs such as inner tubes, pumps and chair straps."

With regards to The Gazette's campaign this year, Ali added: "This year's money will be used for maintenance of the chairs and spares. …
