Tornadoes Has Rivals in a Spin at Bunya Park

RACING: Defending champion Tornadoes made his case for a tilt at successive Dalby Newmarket wins after presenting Gatton trainer Brenton Andrew with a landmark moment at Bunya Park on Saturday.

Andrew celebrated his first success as a trainer after Tornadoes ($3.80) bull-dogged his way to a thrilling victory in the Russell Behrens Electrical Cannonball Flying Handicap (1000m).

The evergreen sprinter raced through an inside gap late for apprentice Sarah Eilbeck to down outsider Brady 'N' Me (11.00) by a nose. Race favourite Diamond Trail ($3) was a half-neck back third.

The win was Andrew's first from only a handful of starters since taking over part of his father Sel's team last month.

"I've only had about six runners so far, and it's good to have this horse win my first for me," Andrew said.

"Hopefully I can build from here. My next goal is to try and get some nice horses to work with. …
