Police Weed out Drugs with Three-Day Blitz at Nightclubs

POLICE have praised the Rockhampton community after a three-day drug blitz across the city netted just a handful of offenders.

About 20 officers and two police dogs were involved in the operation, known as North Grep, with raids on city nightclubs as well as checks of people at the Rockhampton Airport and local bus depots.

Rockhampton CIB Officer in Charge Scott Moon said it was the first operation of its kind in Rockhampton.

"The operation comprised the utilisation of our drug enforcement dog squad from Brisbane and was one of the first deployments here in the region," Det Snr Sgt Moon said.

"We screened over 2000 people and there was a minimal amount that were arrested in relation to drugs which I think shows positively on the community.

"We had no one arrested at the airport and minimal on the streets for drug offences so it was very successful.

"The drugs of choice are amphetamines or cannabis which were the types of drugs we were targeting as well as steroids which is not the common type of drug people would think about but we're certainly looking at those drugs. …
