Abbeyfield Moves to Appoint Its First CEO

CARE home operator Abbeyfield has recruited the former head of community services at AgeUK North Tyneside as its first ever chief executive officer.

John Connelly has joined the Gosforth-based arm of the firm which has previously been led by volunteer executives.

Mr Connelly said: "I'm delighted to be joining an organisation that has such a positive attitude to the care of our elderly people, and that is exactly what Abbeyfield does, in providing unrivalled quality care for our residents.

"The dedication and commitment of our staff in creating such a caring and positive environment is tremendous. However, let's not forget the army of volunteers here who give up their time willingly to enhance the lives of our elderly residents, and it is these staff and volunteers that make Abbeyfield such a special place.

"However care home legislation is becoming increasingly complex and the executive committee felt the time was right to appoint a full-time CEO to oversee day to day operations and provide a strategic steer to the business to ensure we continue to meet these challenges and the ever-changing needs of our elderly residents and the old people living in the community. …
