ADAM Price's vocals are a "three out of 10" but that didn't matter yesterday as The Cathedral College student sang the sweetest tune to celebrate Valentine's Day.

Dressed as Cupid, Adam and the school seniors visited TCC in honour of St Valentine, recognised as the patron saint of romance, to present chocolates, flowers and singing telegrams to students during first break.

Every year the seniors dress in togas of white, red and pink to deliver messages of affection, and all for a good cause.

The students sang tunes such as Jason Mraz's I'm Yours to the admired, all the while aiming to provide a helping hand to the region's struggling farmers.

All funds raised yesterday at the school's St Valentine's Day are headed to the Catholic Education -- Diocese of Rockhampton's Western Region Drought Appeal.

Adam, who when not singing is TCC's boys' boarding captain, said his performance was about more than just singing the sweet sounds of love.

It was to provide a helping hand to the families of many of his boarding mates who have been hit by drought.

The Year 12 student has witnessed the impact the drought has caused many of his fellow boarders, and said many seniors had been waiting a long time to deliver a romantic vocal performance.

"Everyone can't wait until they're in grade 12 to get the chance to be a singing Valentine. It's a tradition," Adam said.

Through the sale of chocolate roses, long-stemmed roses and the students' favourite -- singing telegrams -- the college hoped to raise $500 to go along with the $1000 they raised at a mass last Friday.

"It creates quite a buzz. The whole school loves it. It's all done in fun," St Valentine's Day organiser and college captain Maree Larsen said.

"This year we purchased roses from past pupil Erika Small who is an entrant in this year's Lions' Medical Research Personality Quest and a percentage of her sales goes to the Lions' Medical Research Foundation. …
