GP Clinic Sets New Standard with App

LONG waits at the doctor's office may be a thing of the past thanks to a new smartphone application launched by Mackay GP Superclinic.

The app is the first of its kind in Australia and allows patients to schedule appointments and check wait times from their phones.

If the doctor is running late, patients can adjust their schedules accordingly to avoid waiting around.

This is one in a series of innovations by husband and wife team Dr John McIntosh and Elizabeth McIntosh, who opened the clinic in 2011 with the aim of improving overall service for patients.

"Historically, there has been a lot of focus on doctors, not patients, and it should be the other way around," Dr McIntosh said.

"Doctors say, 'This is how we do things and if you don't like it, tough luck'. We want to raise the bar for the medical industry."
