Renouf Makes Return Grief-Stricken Renouf in Return

CRICKET: Sunshine Coast Scorchers coach Brad Murphy has praised the efforts of Ashley Renouf after the grief-stricken father returned to help his team to its first innings win over South Brisbane this weekend.

Renouf's two-year-old daughter Ngaire was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma late last year with the Caboolture policeman withdrawing from his Scorchers commitments soon after.

The only reason he played in yesterday's match was because Souths' oval is close to the hospital where his daughter is being treated for her rare form of cancer.

Renouf hadn't played a match all year, but did not look out of place as he blitzed the Souths batsmen with match figures of three for 54, which included three maiden overs.

THE 30-year-old was filling in for fast bowler Ivan Thomas. Murphy said it was wonderful to have Renouf back in the team, even if just for a sole appearance.

"All the bowlers did well, but Renouf's effort was mighty," he said.

"He hasn't been playing cricket and we knew you don't forget how to bowl. …
