Mum Admits Child Cruelty; Baby Suffered Horrific Injuries

A MOTHER admitted child cruelty after her baby suffered horrific injuries, including bleeding of the brain, broken ribs and a fractured thigh.

The little girl, who was just one at the time of the incidents, was admitted to James Cook University Hospital with sickening injuries, which doctors said could have resulted in her death.

Ian West, prosecuting at Teesside Crown Court, said the bleeding of the brain was a "shakingtype" injury.

And damage to the baby's spine was consistent with being "bounced down forcefully on her bottom".

"The injuries were described by the doctor as potentially life-threatening," said Mr West. The most serious were not apparent without an X-ray, the court heard, although the little girl did have bruising on her body.

The Middlesbrough mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to child cruelty.

At the time, in November 2011, the child was left in the sole care of her partner for long periods of time while she was working. …
