CHARLIE Appleby has begun 2015 in rip-roaring form and looks to have found Simple Elegance a gilt-edged opportunity to get off the mark at Wolverhampton.

The Godolphin trainer has been hitting the back of the net with regularity in recent weeks, both on the British allweather and in Dubai, and Simple Elegance has certainly shown enough to suggest she can claim a minor prize like the 32Red Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

The daughter of Street Cry looked one for the notebook when making late gains to finish fifth on her Doncaster debut and a couple of subsequent placed efforts at Kempton suggested she was a winner waiting to happen. Her final appearance of last year at this track was disappointing, but she appeared to have benefited from the break when runner-up for the second time at Chelmsford City at the start of this month and a return to seven furlongs will be in her favour.

Simple Elegance is clearly not one of the Dubai-based operation's brighter lights, but even a small improvement on previous efforts will make her hard to beat in this company.

Gios Last is an intriguing contender for the first division of the Bet In Play At Coral Amateur Riders' Handicap.

The five-year-old has done most of his racing in Germany and as a result much of his form is difficult to quantify.

He looked decidedly ordinary on his first couple of starts on these shores for the Dalgleish yard, but was well backed on his return from a break at Kempton in early December and got the job done with relative ease.

A 6lb hike makes life tougher, but the booking of top amateur Harry Bannister suggests new trainer James Eustace means business. Sewn Up has been in tremendous form of late for Keith Dalgleish and has obvious claims in the concluding Ladbrokes Handicap.

The five-year-old is a regular visitor to Dunstall Park and it is little surprise he keeps on coming back given he has finished in the first three 20 times from 36 starts. …
